Virgil van Dijk, a defender for Liverpool, has come under fire from Alan Shearer for remarks he made recently about playing too many games.The pundit slammed the £75 million player during an appearance on The Rest is Football podcast, claiming that elite players are just playing far too much football.

Shearer thinks that although Van Dijk and other football players are calling for a reduction in the football schedule, the Liverpool defender is whining about nothing.

When questioned about Van Dijk’s remarks, the Match of the Day analyst responded, “Nonsense.” Are athletes playing football for too long? What? Come on, please.

They have larger squads, more substitutes than before, and higher salaries than ever—I know you shouldn’t bring up the subject.
