Everton has shown their correctness, and …

Alan Nixon reports that Tom Davies, a midfielder for Sheffield United, will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an injury. This validates Everton’s decision to allow Davies to depart on a free transfer at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

On October 10, the newspaper journalist revealed on his Patreon that Davies had suffered a torn quadricep. The medical staff of the Blades has evaluated the injury, and he will now need to miss a significant amount of time due to rest.

Given the quantity of midfield players they already have and Davies’ apparent lack of involvement, Everton was right to release him when his contract expired in July.

This season, Davies has made just three appearances for his new club, all of which have resulted in losses. Among them was the crushing 8-0 loss to Newcastle United, in which Davies entered the game as a substitute in the 62nd minute, lost possession nine times, and lost five of his eight duels. Given his early performances, it had already appeared that Everton had made the right decision in allowing him to go to new pastures; however, with this long-term injury, the team can be sure he won’t return to haunt them.

Although it is a sad situation for the team to witness one of its academy products, who had initially shown so much promise, struggling elsewhere, Everton will ultimately benefit in the long run from having his wages taken off the books.

Getting Davies off the books was a crucial step because, despite his new injury concern, it is highly unlikely that he would have played much at Goodison Park given the success of Sean Dyche’s core midfield players, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gana Gueye, James Garner, and Amadou Onana.
