West Brom lose out as Rotherham United sign Wolves’ Dexter Lembikisa ahead of Coventry City and Stoke City.

According to TEAMtalk, West Brom came up short in another hunt this summer after Rotherham won a crowded contest to sign Dexter Lembikisa on loan.

The Jamaican international, 19, drew a lot of attention in England and overseas after breaking into the first-team at Molineux.

He has already made four professional appearances for the Premier League side and has ten international caps, but the versatile defender is poised to join the Millers on loan.

According to TEAMtalk on Monday night (24 July), Rotherham have defeated not just West Brom, but also rival English clubs Coventry City, Stoke City, Sheffield Wednesday, and QPR at Lembikisa.

Grasshoppers Zurich and “a number of foreign sides” were also said to be interested in the adolescent.

Being defeated in the pursuit of a goal during the window is never cause for joy, but the fact that so many teams have been let down on this occasion may provide some consolation for Carlos Corberan.

So far this summer, the Baggies manager has lost Dara O’Shea, Kean Bryan, and Zac Ashworth from his defensive options, and adding a full-international fresh off a successful run to the Gold Cup semi-final with Jamaica would have been a boost.

But, like with Ethan Ampadu, who went to Leeds United after West Brom was interested in him [90min, 17 July], it will be a case of moving on swiftly.

The team has been weakened since last season’s close play-off loss, but this time around the manager has the advantage of a complete preseason and the whole campaign to deal with.

That doesn’t make up for the fact that the Albion had to let players go in order to compensate for their dire financial situation.

However, it is too early to presume a total disaster until the season begins and the performances on the field can be appraised.

Corberan would almost probably benefit from a few more inexpensive pick-ups and a few more departures before the deadline.
