Ipswich Town defeats Hull City 3-0 to snap their winning streak at Portman Road.

Hull City defeated Ipswich Town 3-0 last time the two teams met in the Championship, in front of 13,031 spectators. The Blues defeated them 3-0 tonight at Portman Road in front of more than 27,000 spectators, earning all three points in the process.

Liam Rosenior’s team was soundly defeated in Suffolk despite having a great away record and a solid start to the season. Goals from Wes Burns, Conor Chaplin, and Marcus Harness sent the Blues back to the top of the league for the time being.

In the opening minutes of Saturday’s match with Huddersfield Town, they came agonizingly close to scoring when George Hirst headed the ball straight into Lee Nicholls’ palms. They were considerably more methodical this time, grabbing the lead after only six minutes.

Conor Chaplin appeared to be in line to receive a cross-field ball from Leif Davis, but the offensive midfielder stepped out of the way, allowing Wes Burns to race in and smash the ball past Ryan Allsop to make it 1-0.

Just five minutes later, they really ought to have increased their advantage. Once more, Davis was the one to advance the ball, moving it to the edge of the box before launching a low cross. Marcus Harness appeared to be in a wonderful position to score a tap-in goal, but he was unable to make touch with the ball.

Hull attempted to into the game, but Town had the better opportunities. After serving a one-match ban over the weekend, Sam Morsy, who had been out of the starting lineup, made a fantastic ball to Davis on the left wing. He then set up Harness, who spun inside before launching a powerful attack at Allsop.

Ipswich began to shift the tide back in their favor after a strong stretch by the visitors, which allowed them to double their advantage three minutes before halftime.

In order to get the ball to Davis on the left, Vaclav Hladky twisted it past two Hull attackers who were charging towards him. He once more rushed to the edge of the box using his speed, where he found Chaplin with a low cross. After that, he just kept his composure and curled a spectacular left-footed shot into the top corner to make it 2-0.

The Tigers came closest in the early minutes of the second half, but an errant shot from Aaron Connolly served as a reminder that there was still plenty of work to be done and that the game was far from finished. Hirst had a fast opportunity up the other end to increase the comfort level, but his low shot rolled into Allsop’s gloves.

Lewie Coyle was removed from the game before the hour mark due to a serious injury, but it also provided an opportunity for both teams to regroup. When Town worked a corner to Davis in the 62nd minute, he was able to challenge Allsop with a powerful shot. Town appeared to be the sharper of the two teams at the time.

In the 65th minute, they eliminated any realistic chance of a comeback when Hirst pounced on a long kick from Hladky and outran an attempt to bring him down by Alfie Jones. In an effort to make it 3-0, the striker sprinted towards the left side of the box and made a cut inside, setting up Harness in the centre to head the ball over the line.

In the end, the conclusion was rather cozy. Omari Hutchinson, Freddie Ladapo, Kayden Jackson, and Dane Scarlett were added to the front four by Kieran McKenna at the conclusion of the game after delaying any changes to his team.

Dogukan Sinik’s foul on Hutchinson angered Town supporters, but it didn’t stop them from trying to score more goals in the closing minutes.

Although there was supposed to be seven minutes of stoppage time, Ipswich had already effectively ended the match and earned their largest victory of the young season.
