JUST IN: Everton considers signing Mykola Matviyenko, an international defender for Shakhtar Donetsk, in January.

Everton is interested in Mykola Matviyenko, a Ukrainian international defender for Shakhtar Donetsk, and a January transfer is being considered.

On September 26, the source posted a report on their website stating that the 27-year-old’s camp is also considering possibilities for the winter window due to interest from England.

The 59-cap international has so far spent his whole career at the relocated Ukrainian giants, with the exception of two loan periods, and Premier League rivals West Ham, Crystal Palace, Burnley, and Sheffield United are all said to be interested in him.

Although Matviyenko’s current contract is valid until 2027, it seems likely that he will move. He can play either center or left back.

planning in advance

Although versatility is something that all managers often seek, Everton would appear to need assistance at left back more than in the center.

There has been a lot more uncertainty at full-back than there has been in the midfield, where James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite appear to have solidified their positions as the starters, with Ben Godfrey maybe now surpassing Michael Keane.

Since Ashley Young started the season’s first four Premier League games, it has been rumored that Sean Dyche does not trust Vitalii Mykolenko, the Toffees’ left-back who is a member of the Ukrainian national team.

Although the Everton manager has largely appeared ambivalent to both Nathan Patterson on the right and Mykolenko on the left in his time at the club, the fact that he has now seen fit to start him for the past two games, including the first win of the season over Brentford, suggests he may be changing his opinion.

Dyche probably favors a more seasoned presence in Matviyenko, so if a deal needs to be made in the new year, he could be a possibility given that the Shakhtar player also has significant European experience.

But unless the financial situation drastically changes with a potential buyout by 777 Partners by January, there will undoubtedly be concerns.

Since the club is believed to have just paid Arnaut Danjuma’s loan fee so far during the summer transfer window, Matviyenko’s affordability may be in question.
