Huge Blow: Rangers winger  ruled out for six weeks with knee injury

Rangers will be without winger Rabbi Matondo for up to six weeks with a knee injury according to assistant coach Neil Banfield.

The 23-year-old has had a strong start to the current campaign, making five starts and four substitute appearances across all competitions while tallying two goals and two assists.

Matondo assisted Cyriel Dessers in Rangers’ lone goal in their 1-0 Scottish Premiership victory over Motherwell at home on Sunday, however he was forced off due to injury just before halftime.

Following Banfield’s announcement that he will be out for an extended amount of time, the Wales international is the most recent name to be added to a long injury list.

Rabbi looks like (he will be out for) six weeks with his knee, Banfield revealed at a press conference on Tuesday before Rangers’ Scottish League Cup quarterfinal match against Livingston on Wednesday.

We have a good group despite the injuries, so we need guys to stand up and help us get to Hampden Park.

There will inevitably be difficulties along the way, but it is up to us to keep working hard and assembling the team.

Matondo will now enter the treatment room alongside Danilo (fractured cheekbone), Nicolas Raskin, Tom Lawrence, and Todd Cantwell, who are also experiencing knee problems.

Michael Beale’s team had a slow start to the new season, but they now have three straight victories against St. Johnstone, Real Betis, and Motherwell without allowing a single goal.

Banfield has emphasized the necessity for Rangers to “focus on winning the next trophy” since they are the favorites to win the Scottish League Cup after rivals and holders Celtic were unexpectedly eliminated in the second round by Kilmarnock.

We have three games this week, so we must be prepared for the next one, sad Banfield. We want to win once more so that we may attend the semi-final at Hampden Park.

The focus of this club is constantly on capturing the next prize, as the history of Rangers is centered around winning championships.

Every time we play, the supporters support us tremendously, and we have confidence that they will do so again tomorrow. We are definitely heading in the right direction.

Rangers, who were beaten by Celtic in the final last season, have won 10 of their last 11 meetings with Livingston in all competitions, including a comfortable 4-0 league win at Ibrox in August.
