Good Job: Garth Crooks praises ‘excellent’ player after Everton defeats Brentford.

Garth Crooks of BBC Sport said that James Tarkowski was “outstanding” for Everton in their victory over Brentford.

On Saturday, September 23, the center defender scored a goal and provided an assist as the Toffees defeated the Bees 3-1.

Everton’s first win of the current Premier League season moved them up to 15th place in the standings, three points above the danger zone.

For BBC Sport (24 September), Crooks included Tarkowski in his Team of the Week and penned the following: Crisis, what crisis? Not if Everton continues to play that way.

The haste with which Tarkowski sprinted out to stop an attack in their victory over Brentford was anticipated, but to deftly shove the ball away from the approaching Keane Lewis-Potter, who was ready to touch the ball into the net, was a turning point in the game.

Brentford had already pulled even and appeared to have Everton in the doghouse. Tarkowski put on a tremendous all-around performance, saving Everton from suffering yet another loss.

The former Brentford defender didn’t mind celebrating his well-taken headed goal against his old club either. That’s always a good sign. I never understood players who scored against their old club and thought it was somehow a betrayal.

Before traveling to West London to face Brentford, Everton had had a very bad season. Despite the fact that their opponents weren’t in great shape either, Everton still faced a very difficult challenge.

However, the opposition did not make it appear difficult as Sean Dyche’s team put on an incredible performance to earn all three points.

The club has recently struggled to score goals, but Tarkowski, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin allayed any concerns in this area.

They all scored goals against Thomas Frank’s team, with center-back standout Tarkowski setting up Doucoure for the first.

Toffees fans will still be over the moon after the win, but Dyche must take the momentum into two huge league matches coming up next; home clashes with both Luton Town and Bournemouth.

First, however, the Merseyside outfit travel to Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday (27 September).
