Prior to reaching an agreement in principle on a contract extension for the midfielder, Newcastle rejected down a second approach from Chelsea for Bruno Guimaraes, according to information provided to FootballTransfers.
As was previously mentioned, the insertion of a release provision for the Brazil international had caused the negotiations to stall. The owners had originally intended it to be £15 million more, but the figure is now said to be set at £100 million and not more.
Indeed, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley, the club’s owners, were in charge of the negotiations. They two grabbed control of the negotiation and were able to lessen their initial demand thanks to an agreement reached between all parties.
