Dermot Gallagher pronounces a “Brutal verdict” on Newcastle United’s contentious victory over Brentford.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has commented on a few of the disputed calls made during Newcastle United’s narrow victory over Brentford.

Over the weekend, the Magpies needed to defeat the Bees at home, and Callum Wilson’s penalty helped them succeed. A victory was essential to Eddie Howe’s team’s season turnaround because they had dropped three of their first four games. This was especially true considering the upcoming Champions League competition.

Despite Newcastle’s triumph, there was some controversy surrounding it since Brentford manager Thomas Frank felt he should receive an apology for the penalty call that gave Newcastle the win.

Anthony Gordon is impeded and taken out of play when Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken makes contact with him on the byline.

Frank said, “It’s not the referee who has given it; it’s the linesman, and he needs to be 100% confident if you want to decide an even game between two sides that actually gave each other a terrific game.

That indicates that the VAR checked but was unable to take any action because the failure was not obvious and obvious. Howard Webb will no doubt express regret and say, “Sorry, we made a mistake.

The former official Gallagher told Sky Sports after the game, “The referee [Craig Pawson] did not think so.” It’s incredibly interesting since it took so long to deliver that it was obvious the helper was giving it.

“From the assistant’s viewpoint, it is clear that he believed the goalkeeper had put his leg in, but Gordon crosses it,” the assistant said. Whether or not he thinks the goalkeeper has him covered will determine the outcome. He won’t catch the ball, that much is certain. I think some refs will give it and some won’t if you split them apart.

In the other disputed incident, Wilson’s alleged foul on Flekken resulted in Newcastle having a goal disallowed, but Gallagher thinks it was warranted.

Gallagher, though, thinks it was the right choice after additional consideration.

He continued, “At first I thought the goalie flapped at the ball, then Callum Wilson really stops his arm. It was situated well.
