Liverpool owner John Henry has taken the decision to
split ways with Chaim Bloom, Chief Baseball Officer of the Boston Red Sox.
Brian O’Halloran, General Manager, has been offered a new senior leadership role inside the Major League Baseball franchise’s operations department. Bloom leaves his four-year position after being hired in 2019 after a 15-year stint with the Tampa Bay Rays.
As Fenway Sports Group begins its search for “new leadership” of the Red Sox, O’Halloran will continue to oversee day-to-day operations alongside Assistant General Managers Eddie Romero, Raquel Ferreira, and Michael Groopman.
FSG welcomed the potential of new shareholders in Liverpool last year, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley assisting. In an exclusive interview with the ECHO in March, Henry revealed that a process to seek possible investors at Anfield had been “formalised,” but claimed that FSG were “fully committed to the club’s long-term success.”
With incomings and outgoings, it’s been a hectic summer at L4.Liverpool acquired four new midfielders in the form of Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch after Jordan Henderson and Fabinho abruptly left due to the riches of Saudi Arabia.
The Reds have had a solid start to the season, with John Henry in attendance for their opening day tie with Chelsea. Fenway Park, on the other hand, is undergoing a transformation.
“While parting ways is never easy, today marks a new direction for our club,” stated Principal Owner John Henry in a statement issued tonight in response to Bloom’s sacking.
“Our organization has high expectations on the field, and while Chaim’s efforts to revitalize our baseball infrastructure have helped lay the groundwork for the future, we will now begin the search for new leadership.”

According to a news release issued by the Red Sox, “Bloom was notified of the club’s decision by Red Sox Principal Owner John Henry, Chairman Tom Werner, and President & CEO Sam Kennedy.”
The announcement comes before of the Red Sox’s battle with rivals the New York Yankees, in what has been a frustrating season in the American League East for those linked with Boston.
