Tough: Alan Shearer assesses Eddie Howe’s probable England managing post amid growing interest.

Eddie Howe's expert leadership driving results at Newcastle United! -
The truth that Newcastle fans may have to face.

Newcastle United supporters may have to face this reality soon, with Gareth Southgate stepping down as England manager after Euro 2024 and Eddie Howe reportedly on the shortlist to replace him.

There has been conjecture that Eddie Howe will be the next England manager since he arrived at Newcastle and led the club from the bottom of the Premier League to 11th place in half a season.

Last season, he led Newcastle to a domestic cup final, a top-four finish, and Champions League football for the first time in 20 years, and those chants are only growing louder.

Eddie Howe has frequently been mentioned as a possible England captain.
Howe was pegged for the England job even during his tenure at Bournemouth, and with what he’s done for Newcastle, there’s even greater pressure for him to follow Gareth Southgate in the National hotseat.

Newcastle fans get nauseous just thinking about it. Even with the campaign’s shaky start, few fans would want anybody else in charge right now.
Now, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have spoken out on the Howe for England chants, and Shearer, like most supporters, was unimpressed, saying, “Leave it lads, leave it!”

Lineker wasn’t having it and declared, “I think he’s in line for the Saudi Arabia job!” He is the obvious choice, in my opinion, because there aren’t many really successful skilled English managers or coaches.

Lineker was probably correct, and Shearer responded, “There’s no doubt he would be very high on the list, and so he should be after the job he did last year.”

Howe will not leave Newcastle so early in his project. Is he going to?
We’ll be good as long as Howe is only honored to be considered and does not abandon his duties at Newcastle to take on the post.

In all honesty, I believe Howe will eventually become England manager, but first he will want to establish himself as a top club manager, winning championships with Newcastle.

Howe is still a young manager, so he has plenty of time to take the England position, but for the time being, he has a task to complete at Newcastle. Mr Howe, do the right thing. Simply say no.
