John Mikel Obi, who won the 2013 AFCON, played yesterday night at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea Legends as they overcame Bayern Legends.

According to sportheadline, many notable people were enthusiastically welcomed back onto the field as Chelsea Legends defeated Bayern Munich Legends 4-0 last night in front of a sold-out Stamford Bridge.

The match was played in memory of the late Gianluca Vialli, and before the game began, the Blues team posed for a photo next to his recognizable number nine shirt.

On Saturday, money from the game was donated to the Chelsea Foundation and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in memory of the Italian striker who passed away at the beginning of the year.

The Chelsea Legends lineup included many of the team’s fan favorites, including Gianfranco Zola, Gary Cahill, Salomon Kalou, Petr Cech, and former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi.

Giovane Elber, Claudio Pizarro, Roy Makaay, Owen Hargreaves, Lucio, Thomas Helmer, and Hans-Jörg Butt were among the members of Bayern’s Legends squad.

In the first minute, Ramires, another legendary member of Chelsea, crossed for Ghanaian legend Michael Essien to head home to give the Blues the lead. Then, in the twenty-sixth minute, either by chance or design, Chelsea’s renowned center-back and the famed number twenty-six increased the advantage.

John Terry, the team’s captain that night, outran Bayern players before passing to Malouda, who then threw the ball back for Terry to score. Terry then pointed to the sky as a tribute to Vialli.

Terry and Cahill partnered together for Chelsea in defence for a total of a hundred and thirty-four games during their playing days, and the duo made sure the team kept a clean sheet, but this time, Cahill would be on the scoresheet, like he so often was in front of the 5th stand.

When Cahill made a darting run into the box after coming off the bench, Claude Makelele, another substitute, found him out wide and played a one-two with him before finding Tiago, who squared the ball to Cahill to give the Blues a three-goal lead on the hour.

After Essien found Tiago with a through pass, the Portuguese forward skillfully chipped the goalkeeper to score the Blues’ fourth goal of the match and cheers from the sold-out crowd at Stamford Bridge.

The match made Chelsea fans happy, and they’re hopeful the charity match would bring them good luck  after disappointing losses to Nottingham Forest and West Ham.
