Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of another potential striker, which is a highly intriguing move.

This article is a part of Football League World’s “Terrace Talk” series, which offers personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the most recent breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings, and more. The Serbian striker spent last season on loan at the Tykes, but he has now signed a loan agreement with the Addicks for the 2023–24 season.

Some Man City players can easily get lost in the mix at the Etihad Stadium due to the abundance of youthful stars in their system.

Additionally, Citizens fans who aren’t as attentive to under-21 issues might not be familiar with Slobodan Tedic, their striker.

The Serbian striker was acquired by City from Cukaricki in 2020, but he has yet to play for the first team; in fact, he has never even appeared for the team’s youth squad.

Strong striker Tedic, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall, has played on numerous loans since joining City. He spent two years at PEC Zwolle before getting the chance to play in England with Barnsley in August 2022.

The 23-year-old struggled in his first few months with the Tykes in League One, alternating between being an inactive substitute and not even being in the team.

And in November 2022, despite having only participated in eight games across all competitions up to that point, Tedic sustained an ankle injury that sidelined him for around three months.

When Tedic returned in February 2023, he was primarily used as a substitute going forward, but he did score three goals in the run-up to the play-offs, starting all three games in the semifinals and the championship game against Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley.

Tedic only had four goals for the 2022–23 season, but he obviously made an impression on other teams because last week, on the transfer deadline day, managerless Charlton Athletic swooped in to sign him for the entire season.

Is Slobodan Tedic a wise addition to Charlton’s roster?
While on loan at Oakwell in the 2022–23 season, FLW’s Barnsley fan commentator Andy Symcox saw enough of Tedic to conclude that, while not always being fortunate enough to be fit, he has the ability to succeed over the course of a complete season.

Andy is content for him to flourish at another League One team even though Barnsley declined to re-sign him, presumably as long as he doesn’t humiliate the Tykes in the process.

Andy told Football League World, “I’m incredibly happy that Slobodan Tedic has signed for Charlton on loan.

He began his league career with us on loan from Man City, and although missing much of the season due to injury, he made an impact when he was healthy and able to play. His unique skill set stood out from what we already had.

So, I think Charlton supporters will think he is a terrific signing for them. I hope he does well and wish him the best of luck.

Will Slobodan Tedic start for Charlton frequently?
Tedic’s role at Charlton will primarily be influenced by the manager they choose to replace Dean Holden.

However, he has competition for positions at the top of the pitch, especially because Alfie May, a proven League One goal scorer from Cheltenham Town, was the club’s marquee signing.

Chuks Aneke is still present, despite his ongoing fitness problems, and starlet Miles Leaburn, who has Tedic’s physical characteristics, is also a competitor.

Another striker who has been rising through the ranks and receiving opportunities is Daniel Kanu, but given that Leaburn has only recently returned from an injury, Tedic may probably be given an instant opportunity alongside May, possibly forming a small and huge combination.
