Brendan Rodgers vigorously defends Jordan Henderson by criticizing “morality officers.”
Jordan Henderson, a former captain of Liverpool, has come under fire for leaving Anfield to continue his career with the Saudi Pro League team Al-Ettifaq under Steven Gerrard.
Brendan Rodgers has criticized the “morality officers” who he claims are interrogating the England player while defending Jordan Henderson’s choice to trade Liverpool for Al-Ettifaq.
Henderson spent more than ten years at Liverpool before leaving this summer. However, because to the Saudi state’s ban on homosexuality, LGBT+ organisations have criticized his choice of Al-Ettifaq.
Gareth Southgate, the manager of England, spoke with Henderson before the midfielder departed the Premier League for Steven Gerrard’s team, and he decided to include the 33-year-old in his most recent roster. And now Rodgers, who managed Henderson for a while at Liverpool, has spoken on the predicament the veteran is in.

According to Celtic manager Rodgers, “They have to do what’s best for them because it’s their profession and their life.” These days, there are a lot of morality police who pass judgment on people.
Jordan though I am very familiar with him, and I am aware of his affection for Liverpool. He had reached the point in his career where he was probably no longer going to be the first name on the roster. He is 32 years old and has already achieved complete victory.
“Out of respect, it probably didn’t feel right for him to be at another Premier League team. He probably fancied a fresh challenge. So it was obvious that he was ready to go and take on a new adventure.
In an interview with The Athletic, Henderson addressed some of the criticisms of his decision. There, he stated that switching was not motivated by money and made mention of backlash from LGBT+ organizations following his prior support of their cause through the rainbow laces campaign.
“There can be a lot of hostility and criticism directed at me as a person, and that was hard to handle. But I just feel that way because I do care about the various organizations I’ve supported and the various communities,” he remarked. And it affected me a lot when people criticized me and claimed I had abandoned them.
But there was a lot of criticism of his interview. Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan was one of those to criticize the midfielder and cast doubt on Henderson’s assertions.
