It comes after the Clarets suffered their third consecutive defeat against Tottenham at Turf Moor this afternoon, falling 5-2 to Ange Postecoglu’s side.
Burnley are now worthless, but it’s their defensive woes that will worry supporters the most, given how easily other sides can carve them open.
“It’s not something I’m happy about, but it’s easier to solve the defensive side than the lack of chances in the team,” Kompany explained.
“We create opportunities at a high level, so against teams like Manchester City, Aston Villa, and now Tottenham, and that’s something we need to keep in our game while also becoming more solid.”
“That’s something you can work on, and our team has a lot of room for improvement.”
After conceding early goals against Manchester City and Aston Villa, it was Burnley’s time to strike first, with Lyle Foster scoring after only four minutes.
But once Spurs equalized through Son, who went on to score a hat-trick, it was virtually one-way traffic.
Burnley were far too easily dismantled, and had Ange Postecoglu’s side been any more ruthless in front of goal, it could well have been more than five goals.
“I’ve spent 11 years of my life in the Premier League, so I have a pretty good understanding of what it is,” Kompany said of his team’s terrible start to the season.
“I don’t believe anyone is naive about entering this level. We know it will be difficult, and if you look at the total number of points the promoted sides have this season, you can see that every game will be difficult.
“This one was no exception. It’s a good team with a lot of attacking threat, and there were occasions when we couldn’t compete, especially in the second half.
“There are some positives on both sides of that period, but not enough to compete with that level of team right now.”
