Who is Japhet Tanganga? Everything you need to know about the Spurs defender facing Liverpool - football.london

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga has joined Augsburg on a season-long loan with the option to buy.

The 24-year-old battled for playing time under Antonio Conte, and his fortunes haven’t improved since Ange Postecoglou took over.

Tanganga was allegedly denied a January move to AC Milan, however he only made seven appearances across all competitions last season and is yet to make a matchday squad in 2023-24.

Tanganga will spend the upcoming season on loan with Augsburg, who will sign him permanently in 2024 for a reported €6 million (£5.1 million) if certain criteria are met.

The former England Under-21 international joined the Lilywhites academy in 2009 and broke into the first squad under Jose Mourinho during the 2019-20 season.

Tanganga has since made 50 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur in all competitions, including one assist, but he only played 146 minutes of Premier League action last season.

The defender joins Sergio Reguilon, Harry Kane, Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Lucas Moura, and Harry Winks in leaving Tottenham, and the Lilywhites could potentially approve the departures of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, and Tanguy Ndombele before the window closes at 11 p.m.
