It was a shock: Crystal Palace sign another Manchester United man!

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of goalkeeper Dean Henderson from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old has signed a five-year contract extension at Selhurst Park, keeping him at the club until 2028.

Henderson arrives for an undisclosed cost, believed to be up to £20 million, and becomes Palace’s third signing of the summer, following Jefferson Lerma and Matheus Franca.

“I’m overjoyed and ecstatic to be here.” “I can’t wait to get started,” he said on the club’s website.

“This club has a lot of top players who are hungry to succeed and a lot of great fans.” Something is being built here, and I want to be a part of it.”

“Dean is a fantastic addition to our squad and goalkeeping unit,” said chairman Steve Parish.

“We have long admired Dean’s progress through the ranks at Manchester United and England, as well as his impressive achievements while on loan at Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United.”

Henderson has been on Manchester United’s books for the past 12 years, but he has spent the majority of that time behind David de Gea in the pecking order, and he leaves Old Trafford having made only 29 first-team appearances.

De Gea’s departure from Manchester United earlier this summer heightened the prospect of Henderson being given regular starts, but the Red Devils instead signed Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.

Henderson rose to prominence in the Premier League during a loan spell with Sheffield United in 2019-20, when his performances earned him a chance to compete for a starting spot for Manchester United the following season.

He did, however, spend last season on loan with Nottingham Forest, where he appeared in 20 games across all competitions.

If declared fit, the former England international could make his Premier League debut for Palace against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday at Selhurst Park.
