The Express journalist reported via Twitter on Thursday (31 August) that Gruev, 23, is edging closer to a move to Elland Road with Leeds and Werder in the final stages of agreeing a fee.
It is understood that the two clubs are “finalising potential add-ons” as well as discussing a payment structure for the £4.2million deal.
Deal all but done
It seems that the whole deal is now a formality and Leeds basically have themselves a new midfielder in Gruev.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay also reported on Thursday that the Buglaria international is due to undergo a medical with the Whites in then ext 24 hours and complete his move.Leeds now agree personal terms to complete last-gasp summer signing - report
And now, with personal terms said to be agreed, everything should go through smoothly as long as there are no last-minute, Dan James-esque hitches.
Gruev will add a good amount of experience into an area of the pitch where Leeds are currently lacking.
Although he’s only 23, Gruev has 62 senior appearances and 33 Bundesliga appearances to his name, as well as eight caps for Bulgaria.
The Sofia-born ace is a defensive-minded midfielder who’ll likely be in the Leeds starting line-up once he’s fully up to speed in West Yorkshire.
Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu have been playing in the middle for the most part of this season and while everyone can agree that 17-year-old Gray is a big talent, he shouldn’t really be playing every week.
