West Brom launch a loan move for Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden.

West Brom have made an approach to sign Isaac Hayden on loan from Newcastle United, according to Darren Witcoop.

On Thursday [31 August], the Sunday Mirror journalist stated on his own Twitter page that fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday are also interested in acquiring Hayden on loan.

Hayden was meant to join Luton Town earlier this week, but a deal with the newly promoted Premier League team fell through.

“West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday are among the Championship clubs that have approached Newcastle about loaning midfielder Isaac Hayden,” Witcoop said.

“This week, Hayden’s deal to Luton fell through. Jeff Hendrick, another Magpies outcast, is also moving down.”

Carlos Corberan: West Brom appoint former Huddersfield and Olympiakos boss as new head coach | Football News | Sky Sports

Carlos Corberan said at the start of pre-season that bringing in free agents and Premier League loanees could hold the key to West Brom’s summer transfer business.

So it has proved, with former England U21 international Hayden – well out of the picture at St James’ Park – possibly the latest to arrive at The Hawthorns for a minimal fee.

Hayden is mostly a defensive midfielder, but he is also capable of playing in the center of defense, making him an ideal signing for Corberan.

Last season, the Arsenal academy product appeared 14 times in the Championship for Norwich City and brings a wealth of experience with him.

If the Baggies can reach an agreement with Newcastle and Hayden, this would be a very wise signing, helping to bolster both the backline and central midfield in one fell swoop.

In other West Brom news, Corberan is said to be looking for an attacking midfielder before the transfer season shuts.
