And after multiple reports that West Ham were close to signing the 23-year-old Ghana star for £38m – things have taken a twist or two.
Sky Sports news stated earlier today that a West Ham “insider” had told them the chances of signing Kudus had been reduced to “50-50” following interest from other clubs, including some in Saudi Arabia.
Then the Dutch club’s manager Steijn insisted Kudus WILL play in both legs of their crucial Europa League qualifier against Ludogorets.
If true to his word then that would mean West Ham would not be able to sign Kudus until deadline day next Friday – if at all.
Well play he did. And then some.
Because Kudus has smashed a 50-minute hat-trick for Ajax and it could actually pave the way for his West Ham move.
Kudus scored a stunning hat-trick which showed just what he might bring to West Ham. A left-foot blast from outside the box and two right-foot finishes from inside the box – the second after a lightning quick counter.
The hat-trick has helped Ajax to a 4-1 victory away from home, giving them one foot in the Europa League group stages – where the likes of West Ham await.
And given the comfortable lead, Ajax may now feel they can make do without Kudus for the second leg next Thursday night – paving the way for West Ham to be able to complete the move.
Here’s hoping. Because the logistics if Kudus does play in the second leg could suddenly become very difficult for West Ham given Friday’s 11pm summer transfer window deadline.
