Leeds United transfer news as Leo Hjelde exit claim emerges

Italian side Salernitana are seeking an agreement to secure the services of Leeds United defender Leo Hjelde, according to Tutto Salernitana.

The Italian media outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (23 August) that there is a 40 per cent chance of the 19-year-old joining the Serie A club.

The Norwegian is likely to get more game time this season due to the number of defensive exits at Elland Road over the past few weeks.

Keep him

Leeds cannot allow yet another defender to leave this summer as there’s already been an exodus of sorts at the club.

Hjelde may be young and may not be the first-choice option but he can play in multiple positions and is a vital utility player.

Daniel Farke knows that he’s short on numbers at the back and rather than relying on someone from the academy, he’s got a player who was handed his debut under Marcelo Bielsa.

If he was good enough for the first team two years ago, he certainly is now in the Championship and Leeds need to fight to keep him.

It remains to be seen if Hjelde pulls a Gnonto and refuses to train until his wishes are granted or he respects whatever the decision is.

These are a tricky few days for the Whites and it remains to be seen how things transpire for them.
