£12million offer: Everton to sign Southampton centre-forward Che Adams

Everton have made a formal £12million offer to Southampton for centre-forward Che Adams, according to Sky Sports.Reports: Everton back in for Ché Adams

The reliable news source provided the update on its live transfer blog late on Thursday [11:05pm, 17 August], with the ball now in Southampton’s court.

Adams has also been touted as a target for fellow Premier League sides Crystal Palace, Wolves and Bournemouth

A reliable option

Adams has made a strong start to the season thanks to two goals in his first two Championship appearances, helping Southampton to victory over Sheffield Wednesday and to a thrilling draw with Norwich City.

That came on the back of the Scotland international scoring five goals and assisting three more for the Saints in the Premier League last season, though it was not enough to save them from relegation.

While Adams is far from a prolific goalscorer – he has 27 goals in 125 appearances at that level overall – he has showed over a number of seasons that he is a reliable option to lead the line.

Adams will not be the 15-goal-a-season striker Sean Dyche craves to fill in for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose injury problems persist, but he could prove the difference in some games and also help get the best out of others around him.

Signing Adams alone would unlikely solve the Toffees’ goalscoring problems, but landing the 27-year-old – who may yet to have hit his peak – and another striker would go a long way to doing so.

Last week’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to Fulham was particularly tough to take, but it could ultimately prove a good result in the long term as it appears to have forced the club’s owners into action.
