Report: After £115m Caicedo deal, Chelsea now hope to have another signing

19-year-old could now be put in Chelsea’s squad to face West Ham on Sunday.

Chelsea want Southampton’s Romeo Lavia signed and in their squad to face West Ham this Sunday.

That is according to a report from The Evening Standard.

They claim that the Blues are now closing in on a £50million transfer to sign Romeo Lavia.

It is explained that the 19-year-old Southampton midfielder has turned down interest from Liverpool to pursue a move to Chelsea.

The report adds that Mauricio Pochettino’s side hope Lavia is their player soon and can be included in Sunday’s matchday squad to face West Ham in the Premier League.

Southampton Pre-Season Training Session

The report above mentions the fact that Chelsea want Lavia in the squad alongside Moises Caicedo this weekend.

We still wait for an official line that Lavia has completed a move to west London, but we had confirmation yesterday that Caicedo is now a Chelsea player following his arrival from Brighton.

If you check out the signings the Blues are making this window, you can start to get really excited about this new-look midfield at Stamford Bridge.

Both Enzo Ferrnandez and Conor Gallagher really impressed in the centre of the park during last weekend’s 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool.

Now, Caicedo, and hopefully Lavia, will soon be two more top-quality options in the midfield.

Southampton Pre-Season Training Session

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri recently claimed on Twitter that Chelsea great Eden Hazard has spoken privately with Lavia to explain what life is like at the Bridge. It sounds like the conversation has a had a positive impact, too.

The Belgian teenager is still relatively inexperienced, with his first taste of senior football coming last year during a season when Southampton were relegated from the Premier League. He was a standout performer at St Mary’s, though.

In our view, Chelsea’s midfield depth is going to look a lot stronger with him. In fact, there could even be a spot for him in the XI within the right system.
