Waiting game... Forest target Dean Henderson
Nottingham Forest and Dean Henderson face further transfer frustration as they play a waiting game with Manchester United.

Henderson is understood to want to return to the City Ground after his successful loan spell last season was cut short by injury. Forest also want the 26-year-old back and have made an offer to take him on loan with an obligation to buy him based on appearances.

United though find themselves with goalkeeping problems after Andre Onana’s planned deputy, Tom Heaton, was injured in pre-season.

Czech goalkeeper Matej Kovar was another option but the 23-year-old has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a permanent deal. Forest assistant manager Alan Tate was at Old Trafford on Monday as United laboured to a 1-0 win over Wolves and reportedly spoke with Henderson after the game while he was also scouting United ahead of Forest going there in two weeks. Henderson was a surprise inclusion on the bench as he was thought to still be injured.

However, Sky Sports News say United have told them Henderson will stay beyond the window closing at the end of the month unless a new keeper is signed. Forest’s need to get Henderson has eased in the last week with the signing of Matt Turner from Arsenal with the American international making a solid debut against his former club at the weekend.

They are still looking for a further signing though with Ethan Horvath, Wayne Hennessey and George Shelvey not backed for regular Premier League starts.
