Tyrone Mings sent heartfelt message amid major Aston Villa injury concern

Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive after defender Tyrone Mings picks up an injury during Newcastle United defeat

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings suffered an injury and was carried off the St James’ Park pitch on a stretcher

Sky Sports pundits Jamie Redknapp and Andros Townsend have offered their heartfelt words of support for Tyrone Mings after his injury against Newcastle on Saturday.

The Aston Villa defender was stretchered off in the first half of Villa’s 5-1 defeat against the Magpies at St James’ Park with the Villans 2-1 down at that point.

And the 30-year-old now looks set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up what appears to be a devastating injury. Villa boss Unai Emery confirmed after the game that “it doesn’t look good”.

After the game, both Redknapp and Townsend offered their support for the injury-stricken centre-back.

“Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious, it didn’t look good,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “It’s been a bad day because he’s had injuries before.

“Maybe it’s a little tweak but they now have a few injuries. Jacob Ramsey, he’s a really important player for this Villa midfield and he wasn’t playing today so it’s been a bad day. Diego Carlos, he did his Achilles in the second game last season so they’ll need a bit of adjustment now.”

Former Tottenham forward Townsend offered his perspective from recent personal experiences after suffering his own serious injury difficulties.

“As someone who has done their ACL recently, it’s not about Tyrone Mings the footballer, but the person,” he said.

“It’s about the players, the coaching staff, his family getting around him and making sure he’s ok through the whole process. Hopefully he’s ok.”
