Cooper criticised VAR after the 2-1 defeat at the Emirates, after a Willy Boly header at goal struck the arm of Declan Rice at point-blank range.

“We’re not going to cry about it but I was really surprised that the Declan Rice handball on Boly’s header wasn’t at least checked by VAR,” he told TNT Sport.

“I’m not blaming Michael Oliver, there’s no way he could’ve seen it but I think it’s definitely worth a check, worth a look at.

“It’ll be debated, some will say yes, some will say no, but for us, especially because we’re away from home as well, we were quite surprised it wasn’t looked at so it’ll be interesting to see what VAR think about it. For me, they’ve let the referee down.”

Lineker and Shearer discussed the incident on Match of the Day:

Lineker: “We’ve got to look at this handball. Thoughts?”

Shearer: “No, it wasn’t a penalty. Willy Boly is together with Declan Rice here and the ball comes in quickly from the corner.

“What is he, a foot away, if that? What’s he meant to do with the proximity, the position of his arm. No chance.

“I know the referee can’t see that, Michael Oliver, but he calls it right and there’s no need for the VAR to look at that. Never a penalty.”

Lineker: “Agreed.”
