Paul Pogba’s brother Mathias sentenced to three years in prison after court finds him guilty of plot to extort ex-Man Utd and Juventus star
Paul Pogba’s brother has been sentenced to a three-year jail term for his role in a blackmail plot against the ex-Manchester United man. Mathias Pogba was arested and charge over an £11m ($14m) extortion plot against the ex-Juventus star in late 2022. Now, a Paris court has handed Pogba’s brother a three-year prison term, with two years suspended. However, the 34-year-old will serve the remaining one-year sentence with an electronic bracelet, rather than in jail. Pogba, 31, previously told police that a group of childhood friends, including his older brother Mathias, had requested money for protection service – stretching back 13 years. Pogba himself admitted he contemplate retirement in 2023 during this extortion plot but now he may be able to get some closure following this verdict. The Frenchman will be able to return to football in March 2025 after his four years ban was reduced to 18 months arlier this year. He is currently a free agent after he and Juventus mutually agreed to terminate his contract there For now, 2018 World Cup winner Pogba will hope he can move on from this episode and get picked up by a new club soon.
