Jets’ Breece Hall admits ‘confidence’ crisis after fumbles in loss to Seahawks: ‘A million steps back’
Two years ago, Jets running back Breece Hall could only watch helplessly from the sideline as his teammates lost the final six games of the season to fall out of playoff contention. Hall had torn his ACL midway through the sixth game of his rookie season, enough time for everyone to know he was a breakout star, and that the offense wasn’t nearly as good without him.
Yes, 2022 was agonizing for Hall. And that makes what Hall said on Sunday, after he fumbled twice (and lost one) in the Jets’ come-from-ahead, 26-21, loss to the Seahawks, even more jarring.
“This has probably been the most trying year of my life,” Hall said. “I felt like I lost us the game, so you never feel good about that, especially being a competitive person. … If I can’t take care of the ball, I shouldn’t be in the game.”
Hall’s sudden lack of ball security is one of the biggest surprises of this disappointing Jets season. He was sure-handed at Iowa State, where he lost just three fumbles in 800 touches over three seasons. The story was the same for his first two seasons with the Jets, as Hall fumbled just three times in 24 games, with only one lost fumble.
