The source from Morocco stated that there is a “good chance” the 49ers will sign either McNough or Patterson, but it’s not a given.

But according to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, the 49ers are “by no means certain” to sign either Paton or McDonough.

It was stated on Saturday by Marocco that the two contenders’ styles differ. He also referenced reports characterizing Paton as “well-regarded around the league” and McDonough as “fiery,” “opinionated,” and “passionate.”

Maiocco said that on Sunday “Shanahan spoke with Paton and McDonough in the face-to-face meetings about how much control in personnel the positions would wield – both contractually and functionally.”

A third candidate, with whom Shanahan is reportedly at ease working, was also mentioned by Maiocco.

According to Rapoport, the 49ers may call off the search by Monday.
