Andy Reid Verifies Mostly Assumed Details Regarding KC Chiefs Coaching in 2024–2025
The morning following Super Bowl LVIII, Kansas City’s three-time championship-winning head coach gave a brief speech about his future.
After capturing their third world championship in five seasons on Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs are once again winners.
Everyone’s legacy is elevated further by the triumph over the San Francisco 49ers, with head coach Andy Reid leading the way.
Reid was hailed and referred to as the greatest coach of all time by tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Sunday night. Now that he has been a head coach for 25 years, the 65-year-old has not much more to do in his career.
Naturally, there was a lot of conjecture over Reid’s possible retirement at the end of this season given his age and NFL experience. During Super Bowl LVIII media week, the future Hall of Famer made every effort to dispel those inquiries, and he carried on Monday morning. When asked if he intended to return to coach the Chiefs the following season, Andy Reid answered in the press. His one-word response validated what most people already knew: he will return.
Yes, Reid replied.
The last month or so, rumors of Reid’s retirement have been greeted with an equal or greater amount of detours from that direction. Even so, a lot of people continued to question if he would want to end his career as a winner. Once more, Reid has a more extensive résumé than almost any other NFL head coach in history. He would have every incentive to want this to be it.
That storyline has been pushed a lot in recent weeks, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards for him. Reid stated last week that he hasn’t given retirement any thought and isn’t interested in riding off into the sunset.
“You know, Adam (Teicher), I honestly haven’t even thought about it,” remarked Reid. “However, I get asked. People are asking me why, what, and everything, but I haven’t really given it much thought because I’m still kind of in shock over the game and what happened there. Why did Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick retire, I ask myself all the time? Pose the question to the elderly men. I suppose that since I’m the older guy now, I’ll be asked that. I haven’t really given it much thought or actually gone there.”
For the Chiefs, this is great news because Reid is perhaps the best head coach in the NFL right now. His solid track record and creative offensive thinking give Kansas City an advantage in nearly every game they play. With Mahomes, Reid has assembled one of the best head coach-quarterback combinations in league history, and the two aren’t going to let up now that the season is done.
Instead of retiring, Reid would very likely consider a contract extension and raise, according to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones’ story before to the Super Bowl. If that’s the case, he might be locked in for the upcoming few seasons after which he could choose to retire or not. While it’s not too soon or foolish to think of Reid’s situation as an annual struggle, further speculation about the upcoming season is not necessary at this time. Reid will reportedly be on the Chiefs’ sideline during the 2024–25 season.
