Speaking on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Cherry Starr pays tribute to her late husband, Bart Starr, at the halftime show. Green Bay Packers vs. Vikings 091519 Jc2217
The Green Bay Packers have a long and illustrious history that goes back more than a century. The Vince Lombardi era, which spanned 1959–1967, is among their most researched, revered, and honored periods of history. Of course, Hall of Famer Bart Starr led the Packers on the field and was the quarterback during that period.
Regarding Starr’s legacy and magnificence, a great deal has been written and will continue to be written. But his community service was a big part of what kept him so dear in Packers fans’ hearts for more than 60 years. And Cherry Starr, his spouse, had a significant role in that effort.
The late Cherry Star, the late legendary Bart Starr’s spouse, is mourned by the Green Bay Packers.
May 26, 2019, was the day of the great Packers quarterback’s passing. It was announced on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, that his wife Cherry had died. Her age was ninety-nine. In 1954, while the Hall of Fame quarterback was still attending the University of Alabama, Bart and Cherry tied the knot. Because colleges at the time sometimes withheld scholarships from married athletes, they were forced to elope and keep their marriage a secret.
After learning of Cherry’s passing, the Packers issued the following statement:
Bart and Cherry were involved in the founding of the Rawhide Boys Ranch in New London, Wisconsin, in 1965. Helping boys in Wisconsin who are at risk is the organization’s primary goal. Famously, Starr gave the ranch his Corvette, which he had won as MVP of the Super Bowl II.
Bart and Cherry were involved in the founding of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation in 1971, which aimed to raise money for cancer research. Later, to concentrate on juvenile cancer research and treatment, the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation established the Starr Children’s Fund.
