Release of Raiders Marcus Peters and Roderic Teamer Following Chiefs Loss in Week 12
On Monday, the Las Vegas Raiders declared the release of veteran cornerback Marcus Peters and safety Roderic Teamer.
Paul Gutierrez of ESPN reports that Teamer was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with misdemeanor DUI and speeding.
According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, Peters is expected to receive bonuses from the team for $1.5 million, although they won’t be given out right away. Additionally, he was benched during the middle of Las Vegas’ 31-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
During the game, Peters and head coach Antonio Pierce engaged in a heated discussion on the sidelines.
Pierce said only that it was a “coach’s decision” not to play the two-time All-Pro in the second half during his postgame press conference, declining to elaborate on the situation.
It seems that the exchange on the sidelines was the straw that broke the camel’s back. The Raiders were anticipated to let go of Peters, who “was almost cut earlier this season,” according to Tafur’s report on Sunday night.
Since 2019, when he recorded an NFL-high three pick-sixes and five interceptions on route to his third Pro Bowl berth, the 30-year-old’s worth has been slowly declining. His entire 2021 season was lost due to an ACL tear, which undoubtedly affected his play as well.
According to Pro Football Reference, Peters gave up a 66.1 percent completion rate and a 103.2 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks in his 12 starts with the Raiders. Additionally, he has the seventh-highest missed tackle percentage (20.4%) in the league.
With his reputation, Peters could be able to get back on track with a postseason contender before the season ends. It wouldn’t be shocking, though, if teams choose to hold off on giving him another chance until the offseason due to his rather limited market.
Teamer, meanwhile, has six appearances this season and four tackles. Following a hamstring injury in Week 6, the 26-year-old was placed on injured reserve on October 18; however, he was cleared to return on November 15.
Teamer had been a member of the squad for three seasons.
RELEASE: NFL Tracker: Rams Expected To Hire Former Eagles Defensive Assistant Sean Desai
The Rams are anticipated to appoint former Eagles defensive assistant Sean Desai to a “senior defensive role,” per a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Sunday.
Desai’s career includes two stints as a defensive coordinator. The first was with the Chicago Bears in 2021; the second was with the Eagles during the previous campaign.
Following the team’s Wild Card loss, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni fired Desai.
CAP RISING FEB 23An unprecedented hike to the league pay cap is scheduled for the 2024 season, according to an NFL release. Teams will receive an additional $30 million this offseason thanks to the raise in the cap to $255.4 million.
The NFL said in a statement, “An extraordinary increase in media revenue for the 2024 season, as well as the full repayment of all amounts advanced by the clubs and deferred by the players during the Covid pandemic are the reasons behind the unprecedented $30 million increase per club in this year’s salary cap.”
The Rams will have roughly $46 million in overall cap space as a result of the rise.
Put another way, the Rams will be in a better position to sign a free agent with potential to make an impact, like Brian Burns or Danielle Hunter, or bring back a player like Kevin Dotson.
EX RAMS RB JOINS RAIDERS’ STAFF ON FEB. 18Carnell “Cadillac” Williams, a former running back for the St. Louis Rams, is making his NFL comeback as a coach, supposedly taking a position as the running backs coach with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Williams only had one season of action with the Rams in 2011, mostly as a backup. He gained 361 yards and one touchdown by rush in 11 games, with just one start.
Williams’ six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2005, are what made him more well-known.
With his retirement following the 2011 season, Williams established himself as a successful coach. He has been at his alma university Auburn for the last five seasons, even taking on the role of interim head coach during the end of the 2022 campaign.
RAMS ADDED TO STAFF FEB 14.NFL reporter Paul Kuharsky reports that John Streicher, a former director of football administration for the Tennessee Titans, has joined the Los Angeles Rams staff as the team’s new coordinator of football strategy.
Prior to Mike Vrabel’s departure this season, Streicher had worked for the Titans since 2018 in a variety of capacities.
Streicher helped the Tennessee team with in-game decisions, game management, and other game strategy-related tasks in his most recent position.
FEB 13: NEW SWAG FOR 2024?With the intention of making personnel adjustments and moving up to the next level in 2024, the Los Angeles Rams are entering the summer.
But those may not be the only adjustments they have planned for the roster.
The squad appears to have hinted at a new uniform for the 2024 campaign in a recent X video, one that might include “A piece of history.”
The new jerseys will be unveiled on Tuesday.
RAMS IN THE SUPER BOWL, FEB. 11Even if the Los Angeles Rams did not advance to Super Bowl LVIII, supporters should still watch.
Defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day and backup quarterback Brandon Allen, both former Rams players who are currently with the San Francisco 49ers, will participate in the big game on Sunday.
From 2019 to 2021, Joseph Day was a member of the Rams, supporting them in their pursuit of winning Super Bowl LVI. He participated in 38 games, starting 38 of them, and recorded 137 tackles, six sacks, nine tackles for loss, and 14 quarterback hits during that time.
Despite spending two seasons with Los Angeles in 2017 and 2018, Allen was never on the field.
MAHOMES LIKE STAFFORD FEB. 6In Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will square off.
With the possible exception of Taylor Swift, the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is vying for his third Super Bowl championship, will likely be the biggest attraction of the day.
During his Tuesday media appearance, Mahomes was questioned about the quarterbacks he looked up to as a child. Matthew Stafford of the Rams was among the players he mentioned.
