And both left the team without leaving an impression before joining the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ty Davis-Price, a third-round selection of the 49ers in the 2022 NFL Draft, has agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a social media post made by his representatives on Tuesday.
In the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, running back Trevor Sermon was chosen by the 49ers. The Eagles got Sermon off waivers after the 49ers cut him at the conclusion of training camp in 2022.
The 49ers only saw Davis-Price, the 93rd overall pick in the 2022 draft, play in seven games. In their rookie seasons, he was beaten out for playing time by undrafted running back Jordan Mason.
After Davis-Price was traded for Christian McCaffrey in the middle of the season, he further descended the depth chart.
Throughout his 49ers career, Davis-Price ran for 120 yards and zero touchdowns on 40 rushing attempts.
In order to make room on their 53-man roster for veteran defensive back Logan Ryan, the 49ers dismissed Davis-Price on December 5. The 49ers re-signed Davis-Price to the practice squad, where he played out the remainder of the season after he passed waivers.
Since 2017, the 49ers have selected running backs with high draft picks that have either produced very little or nothing at all. After being chosen in the fourth round of the 2017 draft, Joe Williams never played in a regular-season game.
Among running backs, Elijah Mitchell has proven to be the best selection choice. Mitchell, a 2021 sixth-round selection, topped the team in rushing during his rookie season. Although he has been McCaffrey’s reliable backup, he has had trouble staying on the field because of injuries.
During his brief stint with the 49ers, Sermon ran for 167 yards and scored on 41 carries in nine different games.
He only appeared in two games for the Eagles in 2022 before playing his last season with the Indianapolis Colts. He played in 14 games with the Colts last season and had 35 carries for 160 yards.
The 49ers presently only have three running backs on their roster: McCaffrey, Mitchell, and Mason.
