There is an expectation Chelsea will make yet another offer to Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo in the coming days.

The Blues have already had three bids, with the latest one believed to be around £80million altogether, turned down by the Seagulls for the Ecuador international. Brighton are understood to be holding out for £100m while Chelsea are doing their best to drive that price down.
Caicedo has made it clear all along that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge, with personal terms already being verbally agreed, without anything be signed just yet. The problem all the way through has been the two clubs’ different valuations of the 21-year-old but with less than a month remaining of the summer transfer window, there needs to be a solution – one way or another – very soon.

Going into Sunday’s Premier League opener against Liverpool, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is very short of midfield options. The Argentine currently has Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher, Andrey Santos, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu and Cesare Casadei to choose from. The last two of those – Ugochukwu and Casadei – could well be loaned out for the upcoming campaign, however, leaving the Blues short.

The chances of getting Caicedo in before Liverpool at the weekend, though, look very unlikely. Also, Brighton CEO Paul Barber recently hinted the midfielder will start the Seagulls’ match against Luton Town on Saturday.

Barber said: “Moises had a slight hamstring injury late in training and was pulled out [of their pre-season game vs Rayo Vallecano] for that reason. With a Premier League season just a week away it makes no sense to risk him today. He’s probably one of the most exciting young midfield players in the world at the moment and we’re delighted to have him.”
