Quarterback Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions understands that the pain will lessen with each day that goes by since the team’s defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship this past Sunday.
Detroit led 24–7 going into the second half of their heartbreaking setback, but ultimately lost 34–31 to San Francisco, missing out on a spot in Super Bowl LVIII.
Regarding his collaboration with Jared Jewelry, Goff told Fox News Digital, “I think the further you get away from it, the easier it is to sleep at night and deal with those thoughts and whatnot.” “Yeah, but there are always those plays you wish you could have back after the game. You constantly wish for a few plays and throws to come back. But whether you win or lose, you have to cope with that in every game. Usually, those kinds of ideas occur more frequently after a loss.

That night, I believe things just didn’t work out for us. They played better than we did in the second half after we had played poorly in the first. They’re a fantastic team and they deserve it. Unfortunately, we didn’t complete the game, and that happens sometimes.”
When talking about the NFC title game, fans and commentators could not stop talking about head coach Dan Campbell’s decisions to go for it on several fourth downs in the second half, which finally resulted in downs turnover and 49ers points.
Campbell’s Lions attempted a pass 34% of the time on fourth down, which was by far the greatest percentage of any NFL team during the regular season. It’s a cornerstone of the offense, as Campbell trusts Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator, to call the play that will move the chains.
These calls drew criticism because a more cautious strategy might have preserved the Lions’ lead and prevented the 49ers from gathering momentum to make a comeback.
He declared, “That’s who we are.” “To be honest, we anticipate that we will convert, and [Campbell] will face criticism for it. However, we take equal responsibility for our failure to complete the task. It doesn’t matter how, when, or how to do it. Simply simply, he placed his faith in us. We failed to complete it those two times. It’s awful.
The first came on a fourth-and-two in the San Francisco territory, with wide receiver Josh Reynolds in the way of Goff’s pass but still catchable. The 49ers scored on their subsequent possession after Reynolds was unable to bring it in.

Subsequently, following the 49ers’ lead, Campbell signaled for a fourth-and-three play from the San Francisco 30-yard line, but Goff was unable to locate an open receiver. The game would have been tied with a field goal.
However, Goff doesn’t even think it was the Lions’ most heinous fourth-down, go-for-it play of the season.
That, in his opinion, occurred on November 12, 2023, when, in a tie game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Campbell made the decision to go for it on fourth and two with 1:47 remaining.
The Lions take the lead thanks to a field goal, but Campbell didn’t want Justin Herbert to have a second opportunity to win the game. Before the game-winning field goal was kicked, Goff kneeled out the clock after Detroit converted.
Few NFL coaches possess that kind of faith, but Goff has nothing but respect for Campbell because he is a gambler who believes his players can succeed in any circumstance.
But Goff recognizes a distinction regarding the gamble that separates that scenario from what transpired in the Bay Area.

He said, “We got it, so nobody says a thing.” Naturally, people will start to emerge from hiding if you don’t grasp the situation.
However, it would have been a different game if we had those. Everyone is complimenting him and our group for their efforts.”
Even if the Lions aren’t playing on Sunday, Goff is certain that his team has what it takes to compete well again the next year.
He remarked, “We are designed for it.” “The components are in place. It all comes down to wanting to and willing to put in the work. The upcoming year will bring with it an entirely new set of obstacles. It promises to be a great time.
Additionally, you can probably assume that Campbell will look to his quarterback and give the go-ahead if it comes to short fourth downs, meaning the offense will remain on the field.

Goff went for the Breitling SUPER CHRONOMAT, a premium timepiece with a striking combination of 18K red gold and stainless steel. Along with Jared, he worked on the packaging design, ensuring that the box with Detroit’s Honolulu Blue and silver colors bore the names of each of his linemen.
“Everything this company stands for and everything they provide for their customers and the custom experience, it’s been fun to learn about and to be partnered with,” Goff stated.
