Thomas Frank delivered a positive update on Bryan Mbeumo and Frank Onyeka following Brentford’s goalless draw with Lille on Saturday afternoon.

The pair were withdrawn midway through the first half at Gtech Community Stadium, sparking fears that they may miss the Bees’ opening game of the Premier League season against Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.

“We expect both players to be involved next Sunday,” said Frank.

“Of course, we need to assess them over the next couple of days.

“It was a dead leg for Bryan, so that’s why we subbed him off early. We’re not taking any risks, and that was the same with Frank. They should be fine.”

Following some high-scoring games in the USA, Frank admitted he was pleased to see his side keep a clean sheet during their final game of pre-season.

“Of course we like to score goals, and we’d prefer to win, but we’ve just conceded eight goals in three games, so we needed to get back to that little bit more solidness,” he continued.

“Lille are a very good team. I like the way they played and I like the way they pressed. In some ways they’re very similar [to us] in their pressing and how they try to build up.

“It was a very good test for us, no doubt about that. I’m pleased with it.

“We didn’t produce many chances during the first half, but the second half was better. But every single time we managed to get the structure right and play in behind, which shows that we are a big threat.”
