Steelers Predicted to Cut Veteran WR

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a few moves to make this offseason as they look to reshape their team and compete for a Super Bowl run in 2024. And near the top of that list could be one of their veteran wide receivers.

ESPN named offseason moves for each team around the league, which included their biggest need and “big prediction for the offseason.” When it comes to the Steelers, their big prediction is the release of veteran wideout Allen Robinson.

“The Steelers will cut veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson II, who was a disappointment in 2023 (34 catches for 280 yards). That move can save the Steelers $10 million on the cap in 2024 with just $1.9 million in dead money,” ESPN writes.

Pittsburgh traded for Robinson just before the season, landing the former Pro Bowler from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a seventh-round NFL Draft pick. In his lone season with the Steelers, he caught 34 passes for 280 yards.

The Steelers are hoping Calvin Austin begins to grow into their third wide receiver option after his first full season in the NFL. The fourth-round pick missed all of his rookie season due to a foot injury but came back to catch 17 passes for 180 yards and rush for 57 yards while scoring two touchdowns this season.

Pittsburgh could look at free agency or the NFL Draft to replace Robinson, but bringing the veteran back on a smaller deal could also be an option this offseason.
