Ohio State fires head coach Jack Sawyer, who will return in 2024.

Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer, a former No. 1 overall recruit who led the team in sacks, will rejoin the Buckeyes in 2024.

Sawyer, who made hints about making a comeback earlier this month, made his announcement on social media on Friday. After finishing 2023 with 6.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 quarterback hurries, he had his greatest season as a Buckeye.

The media named the 6-foot-4, 265-pound junior to the All-Big Ten second team, while the coaches named him to the third team. Sawyer is ranked as the eighth-best eligible defensive end prospect for the 2024 NFL draft by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.

Lineman Tyreek Williams, who declared his comeback on Wednesday, will be rejoined by him. Defensive end JT Tuimoloau, who is ranked as Kiper’s No. 2 prospect and has played opposite Sawyer all of their careers, is a prospect Ohio State is awaiting word from.

Sawyer, a Pickerington, Ohio native, was ranked as ESPN’s top overall recruit in the 2021 class. Over his career, he has racked up 13.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, and 3 forced fumbles.
