Sam Howell, a second-year pro quarterback, will take the 1-1 Bills on a road that they have never travelled. Howell’s first full season as the starting quarterback is now underway.

After a ten-year career, Christian Kirksey is retiring, according to Mike Garafolo of The NFL Network.

On cutdown day in late August, the former starting middle linebacker for the Houston Texans was released. Fans expected him to ultimately be promoted to the 53-man roster and start games when the Bills signed him to the practice squad. That is not going to occur right now.

Garafolo also reports that the Bills will add linebacker A.J. Klein back to the practice squad due to Kirksey’s retirement plans.

Klein has spent the previous four seasons with the team on and off, so he is familiar with the system. With veteran assistance, it makes sense to make the move, and the Bills ought to support Bernard.

In the last month, Kirksey has become the second player for the Bills to abruptly retire. Brandon Shell, an offensive tackle, retired in August.
