Brian Snitker, Braves Agree to Contract Extension Through 2025 Season
The Atlanta Braves announced Friday they have reached an agreement with manager Brian Snitker to extend his contract through the 2025 season.
The 67-year-old has managed the team since 2016, going 542-451. Atlanta has made the playoffs each of the past five years, including a 2021 World Series title and five straight National League East crowns.
Last year’s Braves team went 101-61 but fell to the eventual NL champion Philadelphia Phillies in the division series.
Snitker helped engineer a great turnaround in Atlanta in 2018, when the Braves reversed their record from 72-90 to 90-72 to start their run of success. He won National League Manager of the Year honors for his efforts.
He’s entering his 47th year in the Braves organization after joining the team as a non-drafted free agent in 1977. Snitker has spent the majority of his time with the Braves as a minor league manager, coaching at the Triple-A, Double-A, Single-A and rookie-league levels. He also had stops with the big league club as the team’s bullpen coach and third base coach.
Snitker served as the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves’ manager from 2014 to 2016 before getting the call back to the big leagues to replace fired manager Fredi González on an interim basis in May 2016. He was named the full-time manager after the 2016 campaign.
The future appears bright in Atlanta, especially with Snitker aboard. Plus, a host of the team’s stars are locked up long-term, including third baseman Austin Riley, first baseman Matt Olson and outfielders Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II.
Now Atlanta looks forward to the 2023 season, which starts Thursday, March 30 at the Washington Nationals.
